Farmtown & Facebook

Boy, Facebook got started and with all the games and comments, I just forgot about blogging. It's been a long Halloween weekend as I stayed home and did little. This part of the month (the last 2 days) bring lousy feelings. October 30th is the day we lost little Andrew, my grandchild, and then the 31st is the day we lost Mom last year. Lori went out of town on a quilt seminar that she booked last April and was unable to cancel without losing her money, so I was alone. Lori tried to have Jaime, our daughter, bring the kids up for a visit, but I didn't want the kids to have to travel all that way, when they could go tricker treating with thier friends. Jaime and Jason probably had a party or Karaoking to go to, so I put a stop to her plans. It is not that I don't want to see the kids, it is just that its a long drive and expensive with gas prices just to keep an old man company over night. They definitely had more fun there than they would have had here.

Well I hope that I don't forget to write again, or at least not have as much time pass before writing again.

Busy 2 Weeks

Well, It's been busy around the house the last 2 weeks. It started with getting Lori to Hawaii so she could help Suzanne with Kamryn's Birth. The Army doctor's in all their wisdom decided to move up the delivery date by 3 weeks, so all the careful planning and scheduling of flights and vacations went out the window. Frantic calls to the airlines to change flights (for addition money,) and then trying to change her return flight (for more money) ended with her just staying for 4 weeks instead of 2 so she could return on her original date. So Lori Left on Sunday, March 29 and less than 24 hours later she was in the OR with Suzanne and Kamryn was born. 6 lbs, 5.5 ounces. See Kamryn's blog, Lori's blog, or Suzanne's blog (Friends area) for more pictures.

Well, then it was settling down to 4 weeks of just Jim (Lori's dad) and me around the house. Then the pager started going off. An overdue hiker along Enderts Beach, then a person over the hillside at Last Chance Grade. Then Monday the 6th we had 2 calls, the first of 2 fishermen washed off the rocks and drowning, then that night a suicide attempt off Pebble Beach.

So Since I'm suppose to be on vacation, I'm going to go to Hawaii and see my new grandchild and Lori and of course Chandler, Jacob, Adam, Jared & Suzanne. Maybe even do a little scuba diving if possible. So Aloha for now.

A New Dog

When I was down in Riverside for my Mom's funeral, I picked up a new puppy. I have always liked German Shepherds and decided to get one. I wanted a dog that could travel into the woods with me and maybe become a partner on the search & rescue team as a search dog. We saw an ad in the paper and went to look at the dogs and Lori and I fell in love with the runt of the litter. We really liked the look of him as he was the only dog have his ears stand upright, making him look like a German Shepherd. He has a little shyness problem, as when I first pick him up he yelped like I had hurt him. But he got use to us very fast, and when we took him home, he didn't want to leave my lap. We named him Zeus, because he looked so good and regal, he could have been a Greek god.

Zeus is now 6 months old, and has grown quite a bit. He's about 60 lbs. in weight and stands proud. He gets lots of compliments when he is out. He still has his shyness problem but he gets over it quite fast. We have started search training and he is getting the idea of finding people, but he's still a little afraid to approach people. Once he determines that they are no threat, he licks and loves to be petted by them. Following are pictures of Zeus the first day we got him and just last week. You'll notice the size change.
